Yes, I realize that Pantone released this press release months ago. But, mid-winter didn’t really feel like the right time to find the best examples of shoes in their 2011 ‘color of the year’.
The color in question: Honeysuckle.
Which, for those of us less picky about our nomenclature is a bright, vibrant, retro-80′s-trending, PINK!

This comes as no real surprise to me following last year’s choice by Pantone of turquoise as 2010’s color of the year.   Back in my days as a high-school-aged 80′s youngling, turquoise’s favorite fashion handmaiden was quite often a saucy, hot-pink. While pink and turquoise were often also paired with black (a combo only matched in popularity by red and black color-blocking), they were also paired with each other so often that they were one of  the unofficial go-to color sets  for any youthful closet.
I just thank bouncing coconuts that  folks had not yet fallen into the familiar “X is the new black” trope that has become so overdone of late. I think hearing ‘Rubik’s cubes are the new black’ might have caused me to experience some sort of severe apoplectic fit.
Whew, random mental housecleaning over… thank you for your indulgence.
So, in addition to some of the more vibrant pink shoes  that we’ve recently highlighted here on the blog, I’ve gone interwebs-rummaging to locate even more current styles in brilliant, jeweled pinks (Oops, my bad – I should make that ‘honeysuckle’… but who am I kidding, pink is what were all gonna be calling it when we trip over it in stores).
In practical, real-world examples, we are seeing a wide range of pinks this spring – from light, nearly-nude, blush tones, to borderline-orange salmon colors, on through to pastel shades and the more vibrant ‘honeysuckle’ shades – and the salmon and pastel tones were appearing last spring as well…so pinks of various types have been on the rise in general for at least the last years – in my own experience.
What I have picked to show you now are but a few examples of what you can grab right now, if pink happens to tickles your personal fashion taste-buds.
This first pair from Louboutin is so darkly pink they only barely miss being called ‘red’ by a hairsbreadth.

Miu Miu’s suede peep-toe has a touch less red in its pink, and the suede material seems to soften it a bit as well.

Ted Baker brings us a tone-on-tone pump featuring a  pink pump with red bow. I don’t always like the combination of red and pink, but here is seems to be working well.

Casadei’s criss-cross caged sandal is about as pure a pink as we could hope for.

Also in a criss-cross silhouette, Giuseppi Zanotti has managed to veer away from his much-favored crystals to present an elegant evening sandal whose simplicity lets the bold pink take center stage.

Diane von Furstenberg, never one to shy away from pattern and color, gives us a more minimalist criss-cross sandal in a berry pink.

Back to Louboutin, we have another berry-tone in the Rolando ‘Zip’.  This brings me back to that internal debate on whether pink and red match or clash, I seem to decide on a case-by-case basis.

Fendi brings us a very cute berry-suede pump with an ultra-feminine bow at the toe.

Kate Spade has gone with a fairly classic silhouette with rosette detail.

Ah, Valentino.  Sweetly feminine, this pump forgoes rich and brassy pinks and instead opts for a powdered-pastel patent beauty with the ever-recognizable sculpted bow.

Also in a soft pink pastel, Dior bring us a snake-print pump that is sweet, if not exactly innocent.

Pink is one of the few colors that is conspicuously missing from my own shoe collection…be it honeysuckle of otherwise.   Perhaps, budgets permitting, I might actually find something this year to fill that particular gap?
