Admittedly rompers do have an inherently youthful vibe but that doesn’t mean they should be dismissed as for a PG-13 audience only. As Cameron Diaz and Elle Fanning prove, rompers can easily range from sweet to chic on the style-o-meter.
While we wouldn’t suggest that you choose a romper for your more formal events– say dinner with the Queen– instead we think that a one-piece can be a fashionable alternative to a cocktail dress.
Cameron’s black 3.1 Phillip Lim number was high on style and distinctively different from Elle’s age-appropriate sweet D&G choice. For a more casual take, Diane von Furstenberg’s S/S 2011 version offered the romper as perfect the travel piece: takes up minimal space, playful print and colour and an unstructured fit. From day-to-night, casual-to-dressy, the romper may just be the Jack of all fashion.
